To become famous

I am a university student somewhere in Japan. My dream is to become a musician.
Streaming services…..
What images of streaming services do you have? It’s something kind of dangerous? Or difficult things?
Streaming services are very convenient tools for us, because we can feel free to enjoy listening to music and watching video anytime and anywhere if only we have smartphone or ipod or ipad. Moreover, it doesn’t cost too much. Students like us who don’t have much money can use tools without being worried about money.

The action that Taylor Swift deleted her entire songs from spotify became a hot topic.
This incident has been featured in many countries, and it became a controversial issue. Actually, what she’s done was seen as an effort to drive up sale of her new album called 1989.
Probably, this result was good for Taylor and record company in terms of benefit. However, in the long run, they could be satisfied with the result, because Taylor is already a famous singer all over the world. Unfortunately, in not famous musicians’ case, there is no opportunity to get known by people.
According to the survey by Recording Industry Association of Japan, more and more people know latest songs and new musicians via free music download sites ( ranking in third in 2013).
So, streaming services are good tools for not only us but indies musicians.

Next, I would talk about convenience of streaming services. If we have to use CDs, we have to put data into computers first. Then we transport to iPod and walkman. It's a little complicated, isn't it?
Using streaming services, we can download music and videos by one click. we don't have to go to the CD shop either! It's seems to be difficult for older people, but it's not impossible.

Actually, I use YStream.
It's link to YouTube. Once we download music from YouTube, we can listen to music anywhere even if there is no wi-fi. Moreover, we don't have to pay money. That's why i like this streaming services, and it has a good reputations.

Some of  you may worried about economic problems. CDs are more expensive than music which can be download on music sites. However, actually, more and more people rely on streaming services, so music company should contribute more good services via music sites. More people like to use streaming services, and pay money for that, the better economic situation will become.

  1. Taylor Swift seems to be one of the most powerful personalities in the music world today. I don't know if you heard this news, but just a few days ago she managed to get Apple to reverse a decision it had made to withhold royalties from artists during the first three months of their new streaming service's existence. After she wrote to her Twitter followers (59 million of them) saying that she would withhold her new album, "1989," from the new service--Apple Music--unless they paid royalties to artists from the outset, Apple immediately said that they would start doing so. When you're an artist, like Swift, who can sell one million albums in ONE WEEK, that gives you a lot of power.

  2. YStream seems very useful. It sounds like YStream is a completely free service. Some streaming services have a free version and a premium (paid) version which offers more features. What extras do you think YStream could offer that might persude you to pay for the service?

Yesterday, the BBC World Servcice (radio) had an hour-long program about streaming, which put it into good historical perspective. The situation is much better now for musicians than it was 15 years ago, during the time of the music sharing app called Napster, but the conclusion of the program was that streaming may offer more chances for young musicians to find listeners and get exposure, but it's not good to sustain careers in music. Most musicians these days need a day job to supplement their income, which, of course, affects their dedication and ultimate accomplishments.
